Job Summary

The research assistant will be in charge of organizing and maintaining a research laboratory specializing in Drosophila. The technician will be responsible for maintenance of the laboratory and Drosophila stocks. The Assistant will complete Drosophila genetic experiments and supervise undergraduate workers, both paid workers and those seeking credit hours. Work on molecular biology and data analysis is also preferred and training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of maintenance and husbandry of Drosophila stocks.
  • Oversight and maintenance of lab supplies, lab cleanliness, and care of equipment.
  • Supervision and monitoring of undergraduate students conducting research in the lab.
  • In support of experiments, perform DNA cloning and other molecular biology techniques as required.
  • Set up and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and report results to the principal investigator.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting.
  • OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years experience in a research or clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular biology and statistical analyses are preferred.

Conditions of Employment

  • All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.
  • If applicable for the specific position based on the duties: the candidate will also need to have a credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
