Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day to day operations of a specialized laboratory within a department or research program.
- Manages all phases of a large, complex research project with the PI.
- Works directly with the principal investigator on the development and the implementation of the research plan and development of research goals.
- Responsible for conduct and support of experiments, functioning as a specialist or technical expert on one or more phases of the project(s).
- Works with the PI to develop the necessary mathematical and/or computer models for analyzing experimental data.
- Expected to write significant portions of research proposals.
- Expected to act as liaison with outside agencies to acquire data and share research information.
- Expected to make formal presentations of research findings.
- Coordinates development of research goals and project design and procedure.
- Coordinates analysis of research findings and communicate to sponsoring agency.
- Provides technical assistance and supervision in equipment, design, construction, modification and maintenance.
- Function as subject specialist, needing little direction or review of work.
- Expected to co-author the research publications.
- Expected to write independent articles and make formal presentations with or without the PI.
- Expected to present at national conferences.
- Acts on behalf of the PI with other departments, programs and external agencies.
- Functions as a leader in the laboratory, assessing the operations and making decisions about the direction and performance of the research work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 6+ years of related experience, i.e., published in a field of specialty and academic knowledge in a field or discipline.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience.
- Doctoral Degree in field of expertise or Master's Degree and equivalent experience preferred.
