About the role
The Department of Veteran Services is seeking a mission-driven Research and Evaluation Analyst to transform complex datasets into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across veteran services, policy development, and outreach initiatives. This role blends statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization to uncover trends, assess program impact, and inform equitable resource allocation. This position plays a critical role in supporting data-informed decision-making by conducting research, program evaluations, and policy analysis to improve service delivery and outcomes for the Commonwealth.
Responsibilities
- Support the investigation of complex unstructured and semi-structured data to provide innovative solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency, and costs by giving stakeholders better control of processes and data to support critical decisions.
- Research design — Collect data, analyze business results, plan, develop, or conduct surveys, and manage new studies.
- Data governance — Ensure data integrity, privacy, and compliance with federal and state standards.
- Data modeling — Design and implement models analyzing veteran demographics, service utilization, and economic impact.
- Adaptive capacity — Ability to pivot and modify methodology, evaluation design, or data collection tools when policy changes occur, without sacrificing data integrity.
- Predictive analytics — Develop algorithms supporting outreach targeting, policy forecasting, and risk assessment.
- Reporting — Create reports and presentations for agency use.
- Cross-functional collaboration — Translate findings into accessible reports, dashboards, and visual briefs.
- Interagency coordination — Coordinate with federal and state agencies to collect and analyze data.
Requirements
- Experience with data projects supporting analysis important for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Passion for public service, equity, and systemic improvement.
- Experience working with veteran-related data or social impact initiatives.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, mission-oriented environments.

Pay
$75,000-$80,000 per year
