The Neurosurgeons at UChicago Medicine are dedicated to patient care, research, and teaching. They offer comprehensive neurosurgical services for children and adults with brain diseases, including aggressive brain tumors, back and spine degenerative diseases, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. Job Summary

The job performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects for the Department of Neurological Surgery. It ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. The role involves analyzing possible solutions, writing articles, reports, and manuscripts, and supporting various research activities.

Responsibilities

• Maintains technical and administrative support for research projects within the laboratory and broader academic research program.
• Analyzes, organizes, and maintains research data, databases, and biological specimens.
• Supports clinical and translational research activities, including subject recruitment and scheduling, protocol development and maintenance, regulatory documentation, and study coordination.
• Maintains updated knowledge of research methodologies, laboratory procedures, regulatory policies, and relevant scientific literature.
• Supports the research mission of the laboratory and department.
• Performs experiments under the direction of the principal investigator.
• Recruits and schedules research subjects; assists with developing or amending study protocols; assists with developing data collection tools; assists with building databases; and provides general administrative support.

Requirements

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
• Knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a related field preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
• Ability to assimilate constructive feedback from principal investigator and communicate updates.
• Ability to work as part of a team, form and maintain positive relationships with diverse researchers, staff, community stakeholders, contractors, and patients.
• Ability to train and supervise others, including students, volunteers, and other support staff.

Skills

• General awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
• Performs other related work as needed.
