About the role

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the health and well-being of research animals by performing daily health observations and monitoring their condition.
  • Provide custodial care, including fresh feed and water, according to standard operating procedures.
  • Receive and document animal shipments.
  • Ensure areas used for technical procedures are well-maintained and adequately supplied.
  • Transport supplies, equipment, and animals to and from various locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Able and willing to be trained to properly handle all species of animals housed within the department.
  • Flexible schedule capable of working 7-days-per-week, 365-days-per-year, including weekends and holidays.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in the custodial care of animals and prior animal handling experience or schooling in animal science preferred.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to lift and transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters, capable of standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Pay Range: Minimum hourly $15.25, Maximum hourly $19.60.

Schedule

Days, evenings, nights, or weekends from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with one holiday shift per year.
