About the role
The Colorado School of Mines is seeking an experienced Accountant III – Research to join the Office of Research Administration (ORA). This role is essential for managing the financial aspects of research grants and contracts.
Responsibilities
- Create new research accounts and amend existing accounts in Mines' financial system and ORA's enterprise project tracking system.
- Maintain and monitor award budgets, balances, and expenses, including reviewing and approving deficit spending requests.
- Compile, analyze, and present financial data for research accounts, ensuring accurate financial reports are submitted to sponsors.
- Manage and reconcile sponsored activity with campus constituents, including faculty and staff.
- Support property management by ensuring all equipment is properly titled, accounted for, and tagged.
- Develop and update financial reports and templates to streamline financial administration of awards.
- Provide training on financial monitoring of awards and related policies.
- Lead strategic initiatives and improve standard practices in research accounting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.
- Five or more years of sponsored research accounting experience.
- Experience with federal and state research regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Ability to interpret and advise on federal and state research regulations.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and database software.
- Knowledge of GASB and Uniform Guidance.

Pay
$75,000 - $85,000 annually
Schedule
This position is currently hybrid, requiring at least two days per week in the office. Regular campus presence in Golden, Colorado is expected.
