About the role

The VP Research - Business Center is responsible for managing accounting activities within Grants Management Accounting. This role requires intermediate-level duties such as developing, implementing, and monitoring accounting systems, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of accounting systems and accounting controls.
  • Collects appropriate data and prepares federal, state, and local financial statements and reports according to funding agency requirements.
  • Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers of post award activity, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, budgets, and operating expenses.
  • Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies in all grant-related activities, including overdrafts, billing, AR, and post-award expenses.
  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions, interpreting and applying procedures, policies, and regulations to the administration of federal, state, local, and private awards.
  • Provides training to campus as needed on grant transaction processes.
  • Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and the impact of significant changes to invoices, AR activity, and financial reporting.
  • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and University policy and procedures.
  • Supports various special projects as needed, such as testing of institutional software systems.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and ability to learn and use institutional software systems, including Peoplesoft, ORSP tools, GART, Milestones Database, and Subcontract Database.
  • Complies with all State and University policies.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or 15 credit hours in accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • Experience: Two years of related experience and/or training to the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform duties at an intermediate level.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and ability to learn and use institutional software systems.
  • Compliance with all State and University policies.

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Pay

$52,500 annually

Schedule

Standard Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with flexibility required on evenings and weekends.
