Representative Payee Specialist

About the role

Unity House is seeking a Representative Payee Specialist to support individuals with disabilities. The ideal candidate will have an Associates Degree in Accounting/Business or a related field, two years of experience in accounting, finance, financial case management, receivables or a related field, and knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain records of beneficiaries' financial transactions
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of payments to beneficiaries
• Provide guidance and support to beneficiaries on managing their finances
• Comply with representative payee rules and regulations set by the Social Security Administration (SSA)
• Ensure confidentiality and security of all protected health information (PHI), personally identifiable information (PII), and financial data in compliance with HIPAA, NY SHIELD Act, SSA representative payee requirements, and organizational policies
• Work collaboratively with other Unity House staff to provide comprehensive support to beneficiaries

Requirements

• Associate's Degree in Accounting/Business or related field
• Two years of experience in accounting, finance, financial case management, receivables or related field
• Intermediate math ability
• Knowledge and skill with computerized accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment
• Government/SSA benefit knowledge including representative payee rules and regulations preferred
• Valid NYS Driver's License in accordance with organization policies; ability to travel

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Accounting/Business or related field required
• Two years' experience in area of accounting, finance, financial case management, receivables or related field required
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices required
• Intermediate math ability required
• Knowledge and skill with computerized accounting software and Microsoft Excel; overall computer competency required
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Government/SSA benefit knowledge including representative payee rules and regulations preferred
• Must be well organized with attention to detail and self-directed with ability to work in a changing environment, be flexible while utilizing sound judgment and analytical problem-solving skills
• Maintains confidentiality and security of all Protected Health Information (PHI), Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and financial data in compliance with HIPAA, NY SHIELD Act, SSA representative payee requirements, and organizational policies
• Must demonstrate the ability to relate to and accept individuals with disabilities

Pay

$22.37 - $26.86 per hour
