What You Will Do

  • Gathers patient demographic and financial information.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures.
  • Answers telephone, makes bed assignments, processes stat cleans, and communicates with house supervisor.
  • Informs patients of hospital regulations, secures armbands, and obtains signatures on appropriate documents.
  • Makes determinations regarding the need for hospital-issued Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver).
  • Affirms that patients are escorted/transported to assigned areas.
  • Welcomes patients during the registration process.
  • Scans all necessary information (physician orders, driver’s licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.).
  • Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Fulfills HIPAA and EMTALA regulations according to hospital policy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
  • Completion of a Medical Secretary program or other general office training preferred.
  • One-year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration) preferred.
  • Hospital experience and/or medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, Windows experience, database software, and mainframe information systems.
  • Ability to convey a positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and to work under pressure.
