Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory and discuss upcoming requirements with contracts or hold/release programs with current or new accounts.
  • Promptly turn around quotes.
  • Communicate developments and events affecting the business to the sales team.
  • Seek new business from existing and potential customers.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with customer contacts.
  • Write up orders promptly, ensuring accuracy of relevant details.
  • Monitor order status and intervene as needed for on-time delivery.
  • Contact customers regarding delayed or incomplete orders and collaborate to mitigate consequences.
  • Advocate for customers in interactions with departments like Credit, Production, Operations, Shipping, and Purchasing.
  • Identify and pursue new market growth opportunities through cold calling, online research, and internal resources.
  • Support and assist with customer satisfaction surveys.
  • Achieve and maintain appropriate gross margin performance in accounts.
  • Consider cost factors when developing quotes and ensure quoted prices cover expected gross margins.
  • Analyze account profit performance regularly and find ways to improve (e.g., material utilization, processing setups, freight).
  • Take personal responsibility for inventory and account performance.
  • Place Special Purchase Requisitions as necessary to meet customer needs.
  • Review and manage total in-stock and on-order positions to prevent excess and aged inventory issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • University or college degree in Business or 1 to 3 years of related inside sales experience.
  • Experience in metals is advantageous.
  • Effective time management, prioritization, and teamwork skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with computers and software such as Excel, Word, AS400, Microsoft Outlook, phones, and company documentation.
  • Previous customer interaction and experience.
  • Drive, determination, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
