About the role
This position assists certificated staff by providing instructional support tasks in both English and Spanish, focusing on students' educational development within the school and home environment. The role also involves being a positive role model for students.
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support for IEP students in areas such as reading, writing, math, and social/behavior skills.
- Support and structure students needing behavior and social skills support.
- Aid students in developing functional skills leading to independence.
- Implement and reinforce social skills training programs.
- Assist certificated staff with record-keeping, material development, and preparation of teaching aids.
- Learn and carry out instructional programs under the direction of teachers and/or Speech Language Pathologists.
- Collaborate with certified staff.
- Assist in assessing students.
- Maintain progress in the classroom and other school activities.
- Perform routine classroom and building clerical tasks as needed.
- Participate in various district committees and departmental work teams.
- Promote positive public relations when communicating with the public.
- Provide instruction to families under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED, AA Degree, 72 college level credits, or ability to pass the Federal Para-Educator test. Experience working with students in an educational setting and/or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences are required.

- Bilingual English/Spanish required.

- Knowledge of instructional techniques and ability to apply them independently.
- Ability to perform routine classroom and building clerical tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with certified staff.
- Ability to assess students and monitor their progress.
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Fingerprinting and background check to ensure no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury, or neglect of a minor.
- To be completed: Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
- May require a CPR/First Aid card depending on job assignment.
Terms of Employment
- Para Educator on the PSE Classified Salary Schedule.
- A7 hours per day, 5 days per week, 189 days per school year; district may revise assignment and job location as needed.
