About the role
The Reporter, North Jersey, covers news, politics, and community affairs in northern New Jersey, including Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Hudson, Morris, Warren, and Sussex counties. This position develops and pitches original stories, shoots and edits video packages, conducts interviews, and files content for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and pitch story ideas from the northern New Jersey beat.
- Conduct on-camera and off-camera interviews with sources, officials, and community members.
- Sell and produce video packages for broadcast and digital delivery.
- File content for daily newscasts and digital platforms on deadline.
- Cover breaking news, government meetings, community events, and enterprise stories.
- Cultivate and maintain source relationships with officials, community leaders, and organizations across the coverage area.
- Contribute to digital and social media content, including short-form video and social posts.
- Contribute to the booking of guests and interview subjects.
- Collaborate with producers and editors on story development and editorial priorities.
- Experience with digital and social media storytelling.
- May substitute-anchor on news programs from time to time as needed.
- Represent NJ PBS at community events in the northern New Jersey coverage area.
- Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or a related field.
- A minimum of three years of video-based reporting experience including field reporting, and clip and package production.
- Ability to shoot and edit video content for broadcast and digital delivery.
- Valid NJ driver’s license.
- Experience with digital and social media storytelling.
- Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.
Preferred
- Knowledge of northern New Jersey communities, institutions, and government.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
Pay
$70,000.00 - $85,000.00 Annually
