Essential Duties & Functions

  • Build relationships with athletes, coaches and administrators to help break news and uncover exclusive stories.
  • Produce engaging feature and enterprise stories off events, news and trends.
  • Ability to deliver stories that stand out and drive subscriber value.
  • Use social media to find sources and stories to supplement our reporting.
  • Collaborate with our visual storytelling and social media teams.
  • Collaborate with Newsday TV as we look to expand in key growth areas.

Essential Job Knowledge & Skills

  • The candidate must have at least three years of reporting experience and a track record of developing and building sources to break news.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating content for all platforms.
  • Strong news judgment and sense of what will resonate with our audiences.

Physical requirements

  • This position is hybrid with a three-day-per-week, in-office requirement.

Compensation

The hourly base rate for this role is $33.93

About the role

Award-winning news organization serving Long Island through its portfolio of print and digital products has an opening for a versatile sports reporter to cover high school sports in a region with over 150 public and private high schools.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a range of storytelling skills, can write for various platforms and engage and grow a digital audience. The candidate will be required to collaborate with NewsdayTV, which includes writing scripts and producing video packages.
