About the role

Performs all purchasing and inventory functions including the creation of weekly and daily store purchase orders and warehouse transfers for assigned branches. Maintains inventory ordering controls in the computer and handles other inventory maintenance projects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Place daily stock purchase orders, transfers, and special buys on time for assigned branches.
  • Perform purchase order maintenance, including cleanup of unknown due dates, past due orders, price changes, receiving discrepancies, freight claims, and PO confirmations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory ordering controls by reviewing forecasts, weekly reports, monthly reports, and vendor lead-time reports.
  • Review orders for needed items by analyzing usage on replenishment reports and lost sale hits.
  • Review demand and usage for assigned branches daily to buy more A & B rank items or expedite past due POs.
  • Process pre-season, special buy opportunities, and trade show orders as required.
  • Make recommendations on slow-moving items.
  • Assist Territory Managers and Branch Service Managers with inventory-related issues.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with supplier customer service, Territory Managers, and Branch Service Managers to drive service level and stock-out goals.
  • Follow all company Policy, Mission, and Values.
  • Travel to branches approximately once per quarter.
  • Monitor and manage inventory by recommending adjustments for slow-moving or fast-moving items by product line.
  • Lead the monthly inventory meeting, ensuring cross-functional alignment and execution among Purchasing, Territory Managers, and Branch Service Managers.
  • Review customer issues and opportunities, market intelligence, forecasts, and special-request purchases.
  • Monitor supplier lead times and ensure timely and accurate updates.
  • Oversee new item setup, item supersession processes, and promotional processes.
  • Demonstrate independent decision-making in problem-solving and actively lead process improvements, standardization efforts, and SOP updates.
  • Assist with training Buyer I on established processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Schedule

Exempt onsite position, requiring 8 hours per day between the hours of 7 AM–5 PM.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college; one to two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and techniques, including monitoring, ordering, and expediting of products.

Skills

  • Knowledge of product distribution operations.
  • Ability to work under multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in PC applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Windows-based applications.
  • Ability to learn and utilize customized purchasing software.
  • Ability to collect data, evaluate results, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
  • Problem-solving skills, including listening, interpreting, diagnosing, and implementing solutions.
  • Maintains organized work processes, materials, and files.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.

  • Skill in adapting standard procedures to meet situational requirements.
