Rental Pump Technician

What You Will Be Doing

  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and locate mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic deficiencies on rental pumps, including centrifugal, trash, submersible, diaphragm, and high-pressure units.
  • Repair and/or replace pump components such as impellers, seals, bearings, housings, motors, and associated hydraulic or electrical systems.
  • Determine the extent of necessary repairs, including identifying major overhauls, and prepare orders for required parts and services.
  • Perform pump performance testing, calibrations, and adjustments using diagnostic tools to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications.
  • Fabricate, modify, or repair pump-related parts and fittings as needed, including light welding or brazing when required.
  • Complete all documentation (work orders, parts orders, inspections, warranty support, comments, and time sheets) accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established time, quality standards, and safety procedures to ensure reliable equipment for customers.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in required safety program, and work in a safe manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A strong mechanical aptitude and a solid understanding of tools and equipment used for pump maintenance and repair.
  • Familiarity with centrifugal, trash, submersible, diaphragm, and high-pressure pumps is a plus.
  • The desire to learn and grow technical skills.
  • A strong sense of urgency and commitment to providing superior customer service.
  • The ability to follow direction, work collaboratively in a team environment, and maintain a focus on safety and quality.

Education/Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Required qualifications/skills: Knowledge of pump systems including hydraulics, electrical components, mechanical assemblies, and the use of diagnostic test equipment to troubleshoot and repair centrifugal, trash, submersible, diaphragm, and high-pressure pumps.
  • Ability to safely operate and test pumps and related equipment; follow oral and written instructions; read and understand operator and repair manuals; work cooperatively with others; work independently with minimal supervision; and maintain accurate service records.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical information such as schematics, technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ability to operate service vehicles and equipment with all necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Skilled in basic computer applications including email, internet usage, and equipment diagnostic software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through email, including sending and receiving notes and attachments.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to ask and respond to technical questions from customers and supervisors.
  • Ability to ask and properly respond to questions from customers and supervisors.
  • Preferred qualifications/skills: Course work from accredited trade school, college or university with an emphasis on pump mechanics, hydraulics, electrical systems, and fluid handling technology.
  • Training related to diagnostics, pump performance testing, and repair of centrifugal, trash, submersible, diaphragm, and high-pressure pumps is highly desirable.
