Responsibilities
- Perform incidental repairs, remove and replace repairable sub-assemblies, evaluate damage to determine reusability in rebuild, troubleshoot equipment, and perform high-level diagnostic assessments
- Learn and use the work order system; complete all documents and parts orders accurately and timely
- Identify parts for return in a timely manner
- Work effectively with others in the shop and accept technical advice from experienced colleagues
- Communicate effectively with Shop Leads, Shop Coordinators, and Managers regarding problems, repair nature, and status
- Maintain required safety practices and quality housekeeping in the work area
- Accomplish work to the Service Department’s quality standards within allowed time
- Read and understand manufacturers’ Operation and Maintenance Manuals per machine type and comply with their contents
- Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure safe operation
- Understand the operation, function, specifications, capabilities, and controls of rental equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturers’ specifications
- Inspect machines returned from rental for customer damage and notify supervisors of any specific damage found
- Adhere to manager’s and lead mechanic’s directions regarding repairs and service calls
- Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnosing of equipment malfunctions and failures with appropriate supervision
- Assist in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining equipment and components
- Attend training as requested
- Assume yard duties as needed, including loading/unloading equipment and cleaning returned rental equipment with a pressure washer
- Work overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduation from a technical school with emphasis on diesel engine (preferred)
- Heavy equipment, engine, or mechanic repair experience
- 1+ years administrative/clerical experience
- 1+ years customer service experience
Skills
- Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands, and hearing
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, etc.
- Heavy work including lifting and/or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more
- Data entry, telephone, reading/writing, reasoning, organizational, communication, and math skills
- Safety and product knowledge
- Understanding of diagrams and schematics
- Intermediate diagnostic aptitude
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Wynne, ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW
- Basic knowledge of Windows/Internet
Work Environment
- Noise: Moderate
- Indoors and outdoors
- Specific risks: Works with moving mechanical parts; may work in high places and be exposed to equipment vibration and fumes
Pay
$22.00 - $28.00 per hour, dependent on education and experience.
