About the role
A Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, metal, wallboard, and other materials, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools, while conforming to local building codes. The role focuses on maintaining production and quality to complete projects and exceed customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine material requirements (e.g., metal studs, fiberboard) and dimensions.
- Select specified types of materials and prepare layouts using tools like tape and framing squares.
- Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencils, chalk, and marking gages.
- Shape materials to prescribed measurements using power and hand tools.
- Assemble, cut, and shape materials, fastening them with applicable fasteners.
- Verify the trueness of structures before completion.
- Apply shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
- Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware (e.g., locks, letter drops, kick plates).
- Ensure timely production and quality of installed products.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety standards.
- Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy, applying shop mathematics to solve problems.
- Plan work, select proper tools, and interpret drawings or diagrams of solid objects.
- Perform a variety of duties that may change often and rate information using measurable standards.
Requirements
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders.
- Reach, handle, and manipulate objects and materials.
- Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Good vision (naturally or with correction).
