The full pay range for this role is $22.69 to $47.74 per hour, with a good faith estimated starting pay of $27.00 - $33.00 per hour. Salary decisions are based on relevant work and leadership experience, education, performance, internal equity, and sometimes geographic location.

Scope of Job

We are seeking dedicated individuals for roles ranging from entry-level Technician 1 to expert Technician 5 to perform maintenance, repair, and operational activities on utility-scale renewable energy assets, including wind turbines, PV power systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Required Training

Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend a mandatory 3-4 week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.

Responsibilities

The level of autonomy, technical complexity, and leadership responsibility distinctly separates the three technician roles:

  • Technician 1 (Entry-Level): Assists experienced technicians with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Focuses on learning and applying safety protocols. Works under specific direction and direct supervision.
  • Technician 2 (Experienced): Performs preventative maintenance independently and conducts routine troubleshooting, repairs, and minor upgrades. Responsible for independent preventative maintenance. Participates in the 24-hour "On Call" rotation.
  • Technician 3 (Senior): Performs unsupervised routine and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and leads teams on routine tasks. Unsupervised execution of all corrective/preventative maintenance. May train and oversee Techs 1 & 2.

Shared Responsibilities (Applicable To All Levels):

  • Commitment to safety, operational excellence, and asset integrity
  • Adherence to safety protocols, including LOTO procedures, and leading site safety assessments
  • Maintaining company property and equipment safely and responsibly
  • Accurately completing all administrative work, including daily maintenance logs, work orders, time tracking, and warranty/inventory documentation
  • Attending all required safety and technical training
  • Maintaining the highest level of system integrity and supporting site budget control by seeking efficiencies

Technician levels 2-5 participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for system monitoring and fault identification.

Qualifications

  • Tech 1 (Entry): 0 to 1 year in renewable energy or equivalent field. High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Tech 2 (Experienced): 1 to 2 years in renewable energy or similar discipline. High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Tech 3 (Senior): 2+ years renewable energy experience. High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Basic computer knowledge; ability to follow instructions
  • Basic knowledge of schematics, multi-meter use, and electrical/mechanical components
  • Deep competency in generation theory
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety, arc flash standards, and NEC
  • Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools

Certifications:

  • Ability to complete all required training upon hire
  • Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards
  • Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards and have competency in system software and industry standards

Other:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Field Work: Work is primarily conducted 100% in the renewable asset field for Techs 1-3. Tech 4 may spend approximately 20% of time in the office environment.
  • Work at Height: Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights of over 300 feet (91 meters) and work at those heights and in confined spaces.
  • Conditions: Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain) and in an electrical-mechanical environment with high voltage/stored energy.
  • Lifting: Ability to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Safety Restriction (Wind only): Due to weight restrictions for fall-arrest equipment, the maximum employee weight must not exceed 285 lbs.
