About the role

Clean Energy Counsel, a mission-driven law firm dedicated to accelerating the world’s transition away from fossil fuels, seeks a highly qualified mid-senior-level M&A associate with law firm experience and excellent academic credentials to join our fully remote, distributed team. The successful candidate will lead deals, manage associates, and coordinate multiple workflows in the renewable energy space, with a focus on solar and battery storage.

Responsibilities

  • Lead M&A transactions in the renewable energy field, particularly the acquisition and disposition of renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and other professionals on M&A matters.
  • Coordinate and lead M&A due diligence reviews and transactional documentation.
  • Manage required subject matter experts and track all aspects of the transaction.
  • Adhere to firm policies, practices, and priorities.
  • Perform other duties as requested by firm management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience at a law firm serving clients in the renewable energy and related industries.
  • Substantive experience leading and managing acquisitions and dispositions of renewable energy projects and portfolios, including reviewing and analyzing underlying energy contracts (EPCs, O&Ms, PPAs, etc.).
  • Strong deal management, organization, drafting, communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Admission to and in good standing with the Bar of the applicant’s state of residence.
  • Dedication to the firm’s mission of accelerating the transition to clean energy.

Benefits

  • 1,200 annual billable hour requirement, with an hourly bonus for exceeding it.
  • Base salary of $220,000+, determined during the interview process based on experience, expertise, and market factors.
