About the role
The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. (TPMG) is seeking two fellowship-trained Renal Pathologists to support a newly internalized renal pathology program, starting mid-2026. The program provides an unparalleled clinical experience, supported by collaboration with more than 90 nephrologists who care for a remarkably diverse patient population across medical centers in Northern and Central California.
Positions will have sign-out responsibility for cases across the region, including light microscopy and immunofluorescence (with outsourced Electron Microscopy). Some portion of sign-out in a secondary area will be necessary. Alternatively, opportunities for a reduced schedule exist. There are over 800 native kidney biopsies and 300 transplant biopsies annually.
Highlights include seamless integration through a unified electronic health record system, a weekly dedicated multi-disciplinary glomerular disease board, and renal pathology education and clinicopathologic case conferences.
Responsibilities
- Sign-out of renal pathology cases, including light microscopy and immunofluorescence
- Participation in a secondary sign-out area
- Engagement in weekly multi-disciplinary glomerular disease board
- Contribution to renal pathology education and clinicopathologic case conferences
Requirements
- Board Certification or Eligibility in Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP)
- Eligibility for or current California medical license
- Fellowship training in Renal Pathology
