Removal Defense Attorney

About the role

Jeelani Law Firm is seeking a seasoned Associate Immigration Attorney with 3+ years of removal defense experience to join our dynamic team in a full-time capacity. Recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in America on the Inc. 5000 list, we operate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment handling time-sensitive immigration matters nationwide. This role requires a high level of ownership, responsiveness, and attention to detail. Attorneys are expected to proactively manage deadlines, communicate promptly with clients and internal teams, and independently drive cases forward without constant supervision.

Work environment & schedule

Standard working hours are 9 am to 6 pm. With offices and attorneys across the U.S., we are committed to a structured hybrid work environment designed to support productivity and accountability while maintaining flexibility where appropriate. This hybrid work is tailored to meet both the firm's and the individual's needs, with the understanding that regular attendance at removal hearings, interviews, meetings with firm management, and client meetings as required is integral to the role, irrespective of the work location. The position REQUIRES traveling to different states to cover removal and USCIS hearings.

Responsibilities

• Handle Removal Defense/Deportation Cases including attending Bond Hearings, Master Hearings, and Individual Hearings
• Prepare and file Adjustment of Status and other family-based applications/petitions
• Draft legal memoranda and affidavits for family-based cases and hardship waivers
• Prepare affidavits of support filings, asylum cases, and hardship waivers
• Communicate effectively with EOIR, USCIS, DOS, and clients on immigration matters
• Handle notifications, RFEs, NOIDs, and Appeals with the AAO and BIA
• Manage multiple active cases simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines
• Respond to client and team communications in a timely and professional manner
• Work independently while maintaining consistent communication with firm leadership and support staff

Requirements

• Bar License
• Minimum of 3+ years experience in handling Removal Defense/Deportation Cases including attending Bond Hearings, Master Hearings, and Individual Hearings
• Minimum of 3+ years experience in preparing and filing Adjustment of Status and other family-based applications/petitions
• Exceptional communication skills for drafting documents and emails free of grammatical errors
• Experience with affidavits of support filings, asylum cases, and hardship waivers
• Proficiency in drafting legal memoranda and affidavits for family-based cases and hardship waivers
• Effective communication with EOIR, USCIS, DOS, and clients on immigration matters
• Familiarity with handling notifications, RFEs, NOIDs, and Appeals with the AAO and BIA
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active cases simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to respond to client and team communications in a timely and professional manner
• Ability to work independently while maintaining consistent communication with firm leadership and support staff

Additional beneficial qualifications

Experience with case management software such as Docketwise or INSZoom.

Pay

The annual compensation range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additionally, annual considerations for raises/promotion shall be provided based on an annual performance review of the attorney.
