Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior/Lead Server Engineer to help protect, modernize, and ensure the operational stability of our hybrid server infrastructure. This role is primarily responsible for security, permissions, and vulnerability remediation within a large-scale server estate spanning Windows and Unix/Linux platforms. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, security-minded engineering, strategic thinking, and hands-on operational experience to ensure server platforms remain secure, resilient, and highly available.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the availability, performance, and stability of critical business infrastructure.
- Participate in tech-debt activities including provisioning, upgrading, decommissioning, and modernization initiatives.
- Support hybrid infrastructure environments spanning on-premises data centers and cloud platforms.
- Serve as a technical contact for server vulnerability remediation and risk reduction initiatives.
- Analyze vulnerability scan results and develop sustainable remediation strategies.
- Assist with operating system hardening and security baselines aligned with organizational standards.
- Collaborate with application owners to address recurring security findings.
- Leverage PowerShell, shell scripting, or similar tools to automate server administration and remediation tasks.
- Provide technical assistance during major incidents and conduct root cause analysis.
- Participate in on-call support and escalation activities as required.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise server infrastructure.
- Expertise in Microsoft Windows Server administration and engineering.
- Experience with Unix/Linux platforms, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, AIX, or Solaris.
- Demonstrated experience with vulnerability remediation programs in large enterprise environments.
- Experience with vulnerability management platforms such as Tenable, Qualys, or Rapid7.
- Understanding of operating system security hardening and secure configuration practices.
- Experience with patch management, server lifecycle management, and change management processes.
- Hands-on scripting experience with PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Familiarity with configuration management platforms such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SCCM/MECM.
- Experience supporting enterprise authentication technologies including Active Directory, Entra ID, LDAP, or Kerberos.
- Experience supporting regulated environments within the financial services or insurance industries.
