Multiple vacancies available—join our team as a Remote Kitchen Helper. This role maintains sanitation standards and performs cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in commercial kitchens, storerooms, dining, and service areas within remote camp locations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist cooks and coordinate activities within the food service area.
  • Prepare and cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, and other food items.
  • Maintain product levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas, including service machines.
  • Stock food service areas with products and materials.
  • Clean dishes, utensils, pots, and pans, placing them in assigned storage areas.
  • Wash objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
  • Clean, sweep, and wipe down dining, kitchen, storage areas, spike rooms, and equipment, including floors.
  • Remove garbage from assigned areas.
  • Use appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for all tasks.
  • Set up, break down, and clean tables, snack bars, display cases, and serving lines.
  • Perform light facility maintenance and assist with large cleaning projects and laundry duties.
  • Clean hallways, stairways, offices, laundry rooms, clinics, living areas, off-site areas, common areas, and restrooms.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, extract, wax, buff, and vacuum all types of floors.
  • Dust high and low areas.
  • Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not met.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in a commercial kitchen or documented vocational training demonstrating knowledge of industrial cleaning equipment, restaurant food preparation, and commercial cleaning processes.
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in commercial housekeeping.
  • Must obtain an Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.
  • Must pass pre-employment requirements, including drug test, physical and fit-for-duty assessment, and hearing test. Applicants not near a testing facility are responsible for travel expenses.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and make decisions with little supervision.
  • Must stand for 12-hour shifts during scheduled rotations.
  • Must live in dormitory-style settings and meet camp cleanliness requirements.
  • Must speak, understand, read, and write English.
  • Must adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This role operates in an industrial kitchen within a remote camp, frequently exposed to arctic conditions and moderate to loud noise levels.

  • Constantly stand, walk, climb, push, pull, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Must travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.
  • Physical requirements include:
    • Lift 50 lbs. from floor to knuckle (2 reps).
    • Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist (2 reps).
    • Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders (2 reps).
    • Lift 30 lbs. from floor to crown (2 reps).
    • Carry 20 lbs. with two hands for 20 feet.
    • Push horizontally with a peak force of 50 ft-lbs. using two hands.
    • Perform alternate cross-over toe touches (5 reps per side).
    • Functionally squat (5 reps).
    • Kneel on each knee and stand (5 reps per knee).
    • Climb up and down 10 steps (40 steps total).
    • Climb up and down 10 steps while carrying 30 lbs. in one hand (20 steps total, with a 30-second rest).

Notes for Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage

  • For pre-employment testing, Anchorage is considered the point of hire (except for drug testing, conducted near the candidate’s residence).
  • Candidates are responsible for travel expenses and accommodations related to pre-employment tasks in Anchorage, including safety training and testing (e.g., physicals, DOT medical cards, fit-for-duty assessments, audiograms, or other contract requirements).
  • For Alyeska contracts, pre-employment testing is scheduled near the candidate’s residence unless local service providers are unavailable.
  • Employees are responsible for expenses related to reporting to Anchorage for scheduled trips to remote locations.
