Multiple vacancies—don’t miss your chance to join our team. This role supports the Qavartarvik Customer Lodge in Bethel, AK on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off. Daily work shift is twelve (12) hours per day with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch break. Lodging and three meals per day provided. Point of hire origins are Anchorage, AK and the YKHC Service Area.
About the role
The Hotel Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep and repair of an 80,000 square-foot hotel facility and all its mechanical infrastructure, including HVAC systems, boiler systems, preventive-maintenance (PM) systems, and daily PM tasks for both the building and grounds. The ideal candidate ensures all facilities meet safety and operational standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular inspections of the building to identify and repair any issues.
- Oversee hotel infrastructure to ensure functionality and safety.
- Perform routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobbies, and facilities (e.g., kitchen, laundry).
- Organize repair projects in a manner that does not disturb guests.
- Plan and oversee renovations and construction as required.
- Act fast to resolve emergency issues (e.g., power outages).
- Support ways to reduce hotel operating costs and conserve energy.
- Manage relationships with contractors, owners, and service providers.
- Maintain inventory and work with the General Manager on needed expenses.
- Maintain activity logs on preventive maintenance tasks.
- Work with the General Manager on the installation of a PM system.
- Perform bed-bug eradication as needed using heat machines and chemicals.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on HVAC assets, boiler systems, and other facilities per manufacturer recommendations and industry standards.
- Work with various skilled trades in all aspects of facilities maintenance, including modular furniture, interior partition walls, suspended ceilings, doors and hardware, cabinets, and counters.
- Perform interior and exterior painting using a variety of paint and applications.
- Modify and repair interior/exterior wall systems, roof systems, floor coverings, windows, and window coverings.
- Repair overhead doors, personnel doors, and related hardware.
- Monitor security systems as needed/requested by client.
- Monitor, adjust, and maintain Building Automation Systems.
- Perform minor electrical work such as lighting lamp change-outs and ballast replacement depending on voltage.
- Test and repair various systems and equipment using meters, schematics, drawings, and manuals.
- Perform snow removal for the building, including all entrances, ancillary doors, and sidewalks within specified vicinity.
- Perform locksmith duties as needed, including replacing locksets, changing out interchangeable cores, cutting keys, and pinning cores.
- Repair or maintain damage to walls and flooring, including hanging cabinets, fixtures, pictures, drywall installation/repairs, painting, VCT flooring installation/repair, sheet vinyl installation/repair, and carpet/carpet tile installation/repair.
- Clean work area, tools, and equipment.
- Escort and/or assist other subcontractors/facilities techs, regardless of skill set/trade, including HVAC, electrician, plumber, and others working in the facilities.
- Perform logistics duties, including arranging for shipping, picking up cargo, and other transportation duties.
- Other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success may also be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic computer skills in Word and Excel.
- At least seven (7) years of hotel facilities and/or building maintenance experience in a hotel with a minimum of 100 rooms.
- Valid Driver’s License with a three (3) year clean driving record to qualify for driving under the NMS insurance policy.
- Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Demonstrated experience with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Must be willing to become certified to use chemicals for bed-bug eradication.
- Contract requires candidate to get a flu shot pre-hire and annually thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) certification.
- Degree from a vocational school or BSc/BA in Facility Management.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Weather: Indoor/Outdoor (occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions); work is done both inside and outside.
- Noise level: Moderate to loud.
- Physical requirements: Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
- Travel: None.

- Rotational position: 4 weeks on, 4 weeks off.
