About the role

This position performs maintenance and improvement tasks for commercial properties at the Qavartik Customer Lodge in Bethel, AK. The role is non-rotational and seeks to hire local Bethel residents.

Responsibilities

  • Makes repairs and alterations to drywall, wainscoting, and FRP.
  • Paints large and small spaces using rollers, brushes, and paint sprayers.
  • Repairs and replaces carpet, carpet tile, and vinyl flooring.
  • Repairs and replaces doors and windows.
  • Operates pressure washers in interior and exterior spaces.
  • Operates diesel generators and space heating equipment for bed bug eradication.
  • Performs cargo pick-up runs and staff shuttling to and from the airport.
  • Repairs and replaces locks and exit hardware.
  • Repairs merchandise and mobility assistance carts.
  • Assists the lead technician in other building maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Inventories tools, bench stock, and supplies.
  • Loads and unloads supplies manually and with equipment.
  • Cleans work areas daily.
  • Follows all company safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the unit’s success.
  • May require working evenings or weekends on short notice to meet client requests.
  • May be required to respond during off-duty hours.

Requirements

  • Some prior work experience in general labor or facility maintenance skilled trades (e.g., carpentry, locksmithing, electrical, plumbing).
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three years to be eligible under the company’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to follow safe operating procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Must obtain a flu shot pre-hire and annually thereafter.
  • Prior training, work experience, or demonstrable skills indicating suitability for this type of work.

  • Basic knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of motorized equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance tools.
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in maintenance and improvement work.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Physical strength, stamina, and agility.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Working Conditions

  • Weather: Indoor/Outdoor (occasional exposure to harsh weather conditions).
  • Noise level: Moderate to loud.
  • Environment: Hotel setting.
  • Physical requirements: Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to talk, hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight.
