About the role
Connections in Ohio is seeking a Data Entry (DES) Specialist to manage inbound documentation through the fax queue, ensuring timely and accurate processing, data entry, and routing of information that supports patient scheduling, billing, and clinical workflows. This is a temporary/PRN position with weekly orientations and paid training.
Responsibilities
- Review and classify inbound faxed documents, including clinical notes, diagnostic reports, insurance authorizations/denials, lab/pathology results, demographic sheets, medical records requests, radiology orders, and legal/worker’s compensation/attorney paperwork.
- Upload documents into patient charts, route them to appropriate departments, or initiate follow‑up workflows as required.
- Locate and validate patient records, resolve duplicate accounts/records, and enter/validate demographic, insurance, and billing details across all payer categories (Commercial, Government, Workers' Compensation, Auto/PI, Attorney/LOP, Self‑Pay).
- Process and validate orders/referrals, ensuring complete and accurate information (modality, body part, contrast, laterality, ICD‑10 coding, urgency status, provider comments).
- Confirm referring provider details, submit provider update requests (RPDs), and ensure compliance with credentialing standards and payer regulations.
- Initiate necessary follow‑up with referring physicians and/or patients as required.
- Support cross‑functional administrative projects or department initiatives as assigned.
- Participate in training, audits, and process improvement activities.
- Provide backup coverage for related administrative workflows during high‑volume periods or team member absences.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED acceptable).
- At least one (1) year of customer service and/or data entry experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Proficiency with computer systems and typing.
- Ability to use a multi‑level phone system and handle a high volume of calls.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Valid driver’s license (4 points or less) with reliable transportation and auto insurance.
- Preferred: Medical terminology background and two (2) years of customer service and data entry experience.
Pay
Competitive rate of $20.75 per hour.
