About the role
The Contract Manager plays a critical role in achieving organizational goals by creating and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and vendor partners. This position is responsible for maintaining a contract portfolio that supports an item-to-contract ratio of 95% in all medical and non-medical areas, with a primary focus on best value and standardization. The Contract Manager leads negotiations and proposed contract reviews, resulting in executed, extended, or renewed agreements. The ability to analyze current practices to support and enhance the contract lifecycle, along with project management skills to lead multidisciplinary teams, is essential. Maintaining individual and departmental KPIs is critical for overall performance.
Responsibilities
- Manage a contract portfolio based on category, facility, or other criteria, ensuring contracts are current and producing value for the organization.
- Drive savings and value creation through negotiation of pricing and terms that enhance business and clinical operations.
- Draft, evaluate, negotiate, and execute contractual and pricing agreements with suppliers directly or through the GPO.
- Draft, evaluate, negotiate, and execute Request for Proposals (RFPs).
- Establish and maintain complex supplier relationships by serving as a single point of contact for contractual matters to provide contract resolution.
- Manage the entire contract category lifecycle process, including market assessments, strategy development, strategic sourcing, vendor selection, supplier negotiations, bid strategy/RFP/RFQ/RFI development, execution, and evaluation.
- Lead supply chain strategic sourcing initiatives by conducting quality analysis of assigned products, services, and contracts to attain the best value decision.
- Facilitate and negotiate pricing and contracts for products, product groups, and services, incorporating appropriate terms and conditions into final contract documentation.
- Ensure adherence and compliance to all contractual, financial, local, and regulatory specifications or requirements.
- Adhere to HIPAA and BAA requirements.
- Facilitate implementation of new or modified policies and procedures based on hospital best practices and compliance with Federal, State, and regulatory agencies.
- Develop relationships with clinicians, operational business leaders, and key suppliers to ensure end-to-end engagement for spend and performance optimization.
- Regularly present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Utilize available tools to gain industry market knowledge and leverage trends to acquire the best terms and pricing for assigned contract categories.
- Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships, assess vendor performance, and ensure compliance with current group purchasing organization (GPO) and local agreements.
- Monitor and measure value, savings, and internal service levels, reporting through comprehensive dashboards and reports.
- Audit contracts to ensure compliance and document savings success.
- Implement performance and quality measures to ensure high service levels while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university, or five (5) years of related work experience in Contract Administration, Project Management, Vendor Management, or Purchasing, preferably in a healthcare provider setting.
- Knowledge of Supply Chain automated functions (preferably in PeopleSoft) as it relates to materials and contract management, project management.
- Knowledge of basic legal principles and commercial business terms.
- Knowledge of project management processes and systems to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
- Ability to develop, present, track, and achieve long-range business plans and strategies.
- Ability to achieve goals focused on savings targets.
- Strong interpersonal skills to be sensitive to the needs of customers through quality service principles.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, to persuade internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills to build and lead effective cross-functional teams while managing diverse stakeholder interests.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic supplier relationships.

Pay
$100,619.00 - $142,124.00 per year (anticipated annual salary range for positions in New Jersey; compensation depends on educational background, skills, and professional experience).
