About the Role

The Coordinator will assist the Director in administering programs and events aligned with the goals and objectives set by the pastor or his representative. This role involves coordinating evangelization and formation programs, providing spiritual and professional formation for catechists and volunteers, and collaborating with the pastor and Saint William staff to enhance parish devotions and discipleship. The Coordinator fosters the full implementation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) for children and reports to the Director of Faith Formation.

We seek a part-time Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation who is a strong servant leader, capable of working creatively in a fast-paced environment to uphold the Pastor’s vision.

Responsibilities

  • Pray for 30 minutes a day (a Perpetual Adoration Chapel is available).
  • Coordinate outreach and evangelization for children, youth, and their parents within parish boundaries, fostering a responsive ministry of formation leading to sacraments of initiation and full Catholic life.
  • Provide formation for elementary children (grades K-5) using Diocese of Austin-approved texts, ensuring all materials are faithful to Church teachings and developmentally appropriate.
  • Form and direct catechists for Christian initiation roles, fostering parish community catechesis on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
  • Oversee recruitment, support, and continuity of catechists and substitutes to ensure sound catechesis for children and parents.
  • Support parents who choose to form their children at home by providing resources.
  • Collaborate with parents of children with special needs to ensure their welcome, formation, and active participation in parish life.
  • Ensure adequate class coverage by enlisting catechists and substitutes, and maintain safety protocols, including hall monitors and adherence to Ethics and Integrity in Ministry Policies.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity by providing materials in English and Spanish for parents when needed.
  • Apply canonical and sacramental policies for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, ensuring children are properly disposed to receive sacraments with reverence.
  • Provide ongoing formation for parents of children receiving sacraments.
  • Collaborate with faith formation staff, liturgists, and musicians to prepare First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion Masses.
  • Coordinate Vacation Bible School and other elementary family events in conjunction with the Director.
  • Participate in the registration process for Faith Formation programs.
  • Maintain accurate sacramental records, faith formation files, and correspondence for all children in the program.
  • Assist the Director in preparing, submitting, and administering an annual budget in collaboration with the Director of Accounting, and maintain accurate financial records per parish policy.
  • Ensure all supervised ministry positions comply with Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies and maintain updated records of EIM-compliant adults.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, retreats, and events.
  • Seek personal skill improvement through formation, manage time effectively, and take initiative.
  • Participate in local and national church activities and professional organizations as budget and time allow, prioritizing ministry at Saint William.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field from an accredited university (or equivalent foreign degree) preferred, or 3–5 years of parish experience.
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn Ministry Platform (MP), Canva, and website tools.
  • Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking); conversational Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Must obtain Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry certification within 60 days of employment and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.

Working Conditions

  • All employees are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor’s obligations to the Church.
  • The Parish is an at-will employer, and all buildings and vehicles are tobacco-free.
  • Fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and plans.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required.
  • Exposure to religious ceremonies, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.
  • Adherence to established dress codes and conduct standards.
  • May require use of personal or parish vehicles for off-site travel, including overnight stays.
