Relief Veterinarian

About the role

The Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Relief Veterinarian to support our Veterinary Services team on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

• Performing high-volume spay/neuter surgeries
• Conducting physical examinations and diagnostics
• Diagnosing illnesses and developing treatment plans
• Administering vaccinations and preventive care
• Performing additional surgical procedures within your expertise
• Collaborating with veterinary technicians, assistants, and animal care staff
• Maintaining accurate electronic medical records
• Helping animals become healthy and ready for adoption, foster, or transfer
• Performing humane euthanasia when medically appropriate and in accordance with organizational policies

Requirements

• Holds an active, unrestricted Florida veterinary license
• Has a DVM (or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary school
• Is confident performing routine canine and feline surgeries
• Has excellent clinical judgment and communication skills
• Enjoys working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Shares our commitment to compassionate, high-quality animal care

Qualifications

• Experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter surgery is preferred but not required
