About the Role

The Relief Operator must proficiently operate all line equipment at a grade 8 level. This role reports to the Production Supervisor and is based out of our Sparta, Michigan location. The employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while paying close attention to detail through many changes.

Responsibilities

• Coverage to run filler, labeler, case packer, box former, and depalletizer in absence of standard operators.
• Complete quality checks.
• Know the purpose and proper operation of all safety switches, interlocks, and safety devices.
• Properly start and stop the machinery.
• Understand and properly operate all machine controls: mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic.
• Proficient at performing product cuts.
• Keep the work area clean and free of debris; keep waste corrugated stacked neatly in the waste cart.
• Clear jams and reset the machinery.
• Safely operate the electric pallet jack and be Forklift Certified.
• Assist maintenance in size changeovers as necessary.
• Fill out all needed documentation and perform first piece inspections.
• Coordinate with the operators so the correct boxes are available to the case packer.
• Proficient in operating all line equipment.
• Maintain awareness of all safety procedures.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Capable of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
• Successfully complete and maintain the Lassonde Pappas Forklift certification.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Detailed oriented and ability to multi-task.
• Ability to run whalon, filler, labeler, case packer, and line driver.
• Ability to complete all quality checks.

Qualifications

• Has successfully completed machine operator training on all pieces of equipment.
• Can properly fill out all required documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the food/beverage industry.
• Previous experience in manufacturing or production environment.
• Ability to direct, coach, and train others.
• Consultative, influential, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

• Frequent: Ability to talk and hear; stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in area of responsibility. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).
• Occasional: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.
