Reliability Engineer

Support a heavy-industrial client by providing technical and strategic expertise in life-cycle asset management to maximize equipment performance at minimum cost through analysis, process mapping, and reliability improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, mechanical, electrical, control, and safety/security systems.
  • Define, develop, administer, and refine the asset management plan, maintenance plan, and preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Reduce and improve maintenance work to assure efficient and productive operation of processes and equipment while prolonging the economic life of assets at the lowest practical cost.
  • Proactively address strategic long-term problems/issues affecting the organization; champion and lead the reliability process while building relationships with functional, engineering, and business leaders.
  • Support the capital project process to ensure reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations, including qualification and validation to adhere to functional specifications.
  • Guide designs to ensure reliability and maintainability; participate in design reviews of capital additions and changes for full life-cycle maintainability.
  • Participate in the approval of new installations (including contractor work) to ensure maintainability and reliability follow life-cycle costing methods.
  • Support the Asset Operating Plan with standardized processes and procedures for proper operation and operator care of production, utility, and auxiliary assets.
  • Develop engineered solutions to mitigate repetitive failures affecting plant availability, performance, capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance.
  • Apply data analysis techniques, including:
    • Statistical Process Control
    • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
    • Reliability modeling and prediction
    • RCFA fault analysis techniques
    • Six Sigma (6σ) methodology
  • Implement Predictive/Maintenance Methods/Technologies, including:
    • Vibration Sampling and Analysis
    • Lubrication Sampling and Analysis
    • Thermography: Mechanical, Electrical
    • Ultrasonic Thickness, Ultrasonic Sound: Electrical, Mechanical, Air
    • Machine Alignment and Balancing
  • Facilitate root-cause and root-cause failure analysis (RCA, RCFA); support failure reporting, analysis, and corrective action systems.
  • Maintain Asset Maintenance Plans defining maintenance practices for production, utility, and auxiliary assets, including predictive and preventive maintenance program development and optimization.
  • Work with all levels of maintenance and operations to obtain owner approval prior to implementation and changes.
  • Analyze planned idleness of operating equipment to develop and improve PM/PdM schedules; adjust frequencies based on downtime reports and equipment histories to avoid over-maintenance.
  • Regularly review equipment failures to determine preventive actions that could prevent recurrence.
  • Optimize maintenance to maximize production capacity based on preventive maintenance time needs, repair histories, and inspection reports.
  • Develop standardization programs influencing new equipment purchases, including construction, materials, equipment, and spare parts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in reliability engineering-related processes.
  • Expertise in maintenance and reliability, material management, planning and scheduling, and CMMS/EAM/ERP optimization.
  • Understanding of the RCM process, failure mode identification, defect analysis, cause and effect analysis, loss elimination, determination of probability, and consequence of failures; experience with sFMEA, RCFA decision logic, and writing tasks to mitigate failures.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Understanding of Asset Management, its components, and organization.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring principles, tools, and application.
  • At least one certification in reliability (CMRP, CRL, etc.); willingness to pursue ongoing knowledge and certifications in reliability and predictive technologies.

Physical Demands

  • Regular physical activity including walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone, computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
