Snap Inc. · Chandler, AZ · 2 wk ago
Quality Assurance$142k–$214k/yrFull-time

Snap Inc. is a technology company focused on empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, and learn about the world through innovative products like Snapchat, Specs (advanced eyewear), Bitmoji, and Saturn. Specs Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary, develops cutting-edge eyewear that integrates digital experiences into the physical world using see-through lenses and Snap OS, a context-aware operating system. The company also provides Lens Studio, a suite of developer tools for creating augmented reality experiences.

About the role

We’re looking for a Reliability and Failure Analysis Engineer to develop and execute reliability programs for our display technologies, as well as lead failure analysis. These technologies are critical to the next generation of Specs wearable computing devices, such as Spectacles.

Responsibilities

  • Work with operations, engineering (EE, ME, NPI), designers, and contract manufacturers to plan and execute reliability testing, assess product durability, complete failure analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop, demonstrate, and systematize assessment methods for components, subassemblies, and processes to ensure they meet quality and reliability requirements.
  • Provide expertise on reliability test methodology, device integrity measurement, and test-to-failure approaches to understand design margins.
  • Implement data collection, storage, and reduction systems to provide real-time accessible data and communicate ongoing testing activities.
  • Support new technology developments—materials, processes, components, and subassemblies—using a systemic approach for risk prioritization and reliability growth. Assist with prototype builds at contract manufacturers.
  • Identify high-risk failure modes early in the design lifecycle and collaborate with teams to evaluate and mitigate risks.
  • Drive continuous improvement in failure analysis capability, reliability testing, product reliability outcomes, and field reliability for new products.
  • Lead technology and strategy development for reliability and failure analysis.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with EMS to prepare and execute reliability test plans, and with engineering teams to communicate results, analyze failures, and validate solutions.
  • Proven track record of completing and documenting failure analyses, including corrective action suggestions and follow-up validation testing.
  • Hands-on experience operating and interpreting results from SEM/EDX, FTIR/DSC/TGA, CT X-ray, optical microscopy, OMM/CMM, Instron, potting/polishing cross-sections, and red-dye testing.
  • Solid understanding of Six Sigma concepts and capability to run Weibull and other model-based reliability analyses.
  • Strong grasp of the physics of failure and material properties (mechanical, electrical, and optical).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external partners, both domestic and international.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience in failure analysis, reliability testing, and technology development.
  • Preferred: Master’s or higher degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Preferred: At least one previous role (>2 years) in the consumer electronics industry.

Schedule

This role follows a “default together” policy, requiring team members to work in an office 4+ days per week to foster collaboration and culture.

Pay

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone determining the salary range for the position. Starting pay is based on skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions, and may be negotiable within the range.

  • Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $142,000–$214,000 annually.
  • Zone B: $135,000–$203,000 annually.
  • Zone C: $121,000–$182,000 annually.

This position is also eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.

Benefits

  • Paid parental leave.
  • Comprehensive medical coverage.
  • Emotional and mental health support programs.
  • Compensation packages that include long-term success sharing.
