Job Purpose

Experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy industry as a Relay Technician at various locations throughout our Long Island service territory.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for:

  • Applying manufacturers' instructions for testing, adjusting and maintaining equipment.
  • Reading and analyzing AC and DC prints and test results.
  • Installing, acceptance testing, repair, and investigating questionable operations, of all types of relays, instrument transformers, telemetering equipment, load control equipment, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) equipment, and oscillographic equipment.
  • Preparing written reports and sketches, able to discriminate as to circuits and equipment clearances in order to safely perform the work.
  • Executing the necessary switching operations in accordance with a duly authorized switching order.
  • Capable of working on energized equipment without causing interruptions to service.
  • Setting, testing, calibrating, adjusting and repairing all types of protective relays.
  • Performing all necessary system operational tests to insure proper functional performance of complete protection, control, telemetering, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work overtime on an as needed basis and participate in national grid's Emergency Restoration Program.

  • Operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a valid New York State motor operators license is required.

Qualifications

An Associates Degree from an accredited college in Electrical Technology is required. Applicants will need to provide a copy of their degree, a copy of their official college transcript and pass a written screening exam to be considered for this position. Valid Driver’s License required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy

Benefits

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
