Relay Electrician I

Responsibilities

• Inspects, tests, adjusts, calibrates, repairs and installs distribution level system protection and control equipment.
• Performs the work required for the installation, maintenance, repair and adjustment of automatic controls and equipment protection devices concerned with the operation of distribution level power transformers, and distribution level protective systems.
• With supervision, certifies all related wiring, performs operational checks and evaluates in-service test data.
• Performs tests on electromechanical and microprocessor based relays, capturing test data electronically and uploading results to central database.
• Engages in ongoing learning of new systems and methods through on-the-job training.

Requirements

• Must be a journeyman substation electrician or have equal to or more P&C experience.
• Have training in mathematics.
• Be knowledgeable in electrical and electronic theory, including but not limited to microprocessors relaying, phasor circuits and diagrams.
• Must be qualified to perform switching or become qualified within 90 days of job award.
