This position will be filled as a Relay Apprentice (1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year, 4th Year) or Relay Technician based on qualifications and experience. The selected candidate must live within, or relocate to within, 45 miles of the service center headquarters in Blytheville, Arkansas.
Responsibilities
- Perform tests, repairs, adjustments, and calibrations on relays, meters, telemeters, supervisory control, carrier current equipment, and related apparatus in laboratory and field settings.
- Connect and read meters, instruments, and other devices.
- Take notes in the field and laboratory, and prepare routine reports.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas.
- Use hand tools, handle ladders, and work safely on poles, structures, and towers.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment safely.
- Assist in switching, constructing, installing, and maintaining relaying and associated equipment.
- Assist in storm restoration in substations and other groups.
- Adhere to company safety rules and administer approved resuscitation and first aid methods.
- Maintain a valid automobile/truck driver’s license, TWIC card, CIP background check, or other applicable licenses/IDs.
- Responsibly manage company tools, instruments, and equipment.
- Familiarize yourself with relay and spare parts stock.
- Read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety.
- Learn and apply the company’s electrical and mechanical tagging rules for a qualified switchman.
- Obtain a working knowledge of company practices and standards related to the work.
- Complete all mandatory training requirements for the position.
- Work extended hours, including overtime or emergency work, as required.
- Work out-of-town assignments as needed.

Qualifications
The position level will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications:
- Relay Apprentice 1st Year:
- At least 2 years of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field, or
- A two-year Associate’s Degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering.
- Relay Apprentice 2nd Year:
- At least 1 year of experience as a qualified Relay Apprentice 1st Year, or
- At least 1 year of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field and a two-year Associate’s Degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering, or
- At least 3 years of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field.
- Relay Apprentice 3rd Year:
- At least 1 year of experience as a qualified Relay Apprentice 2nd Year, or
- At least 2 years of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field and a two-year Associate’s Degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering, or
- At least 4 years of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field.
- Relay Apprentice 4th Year:
- At least 1 year of experience as a qualified Relay Apprentice 3rd Year, or
- At least 3 years of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field and a two-year Associate’s Degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering, or
- At least 5 years of equivalent work experience in a related field.
- Relay Technician:
- At least 1 year of experience as a qualified Relay Apprentice 4th Year, or
- At least 3 years of equivalent work/training in a relay-related field and a two-year Associate’s Degree specializing in electronics, instrumentation, computers, or engineering, and at least 4 years of equivalent work experience in a related field.
Testing
- Must be EEI TECH test recommended. Candidates selected for testing will be invited via email.
- Fit-for-Duty testing may also be required for this position.
Authorization to work in the United States is required. Entergy will not sponsor candidates for work visas for this position. Travel may be required up to 50% to 75% of the time.
