This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of our New York office. About the role
The Corporate Banking Relationship Management team is responsible for acquiring, orchestrating, and growing entire client and ecosystem relationships, deepening relationships with key positions in late-stage companies, and serving as a thought leader in advisory sales. The role advises senior leaders in late-stage companies, provides beneficial referrals by cross-selling across the entire commercial platform, and builds real relationships to differentiate the bank within the technology ecosystem. The position ensures controls are in place, managed, and addressed while elevating and mitigating emerging risks.
Responsibilities
- Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary relationship management contact for a large portfolio of late-stage clients, identifying needs and working with internal partners to structure customized solutions. Ensure high-quality products, services, and platforms are available to clients. Leverage expertise in credit and non-credit banking products (SVB Go, financing solutions, private banking, wealth advisory, cash management, FX, trade finance, payments, cards) to recommend appropriate solutions. Proactively anticipate client needs and recognize cross-sell opportunities. Coordinate with internal product partners to ensure quality and timely completion of cross-sell projects.
- Business Development and Growth: Act as a key advisor in the client's industry, staying engaged with the technology ecosystem and trends to provide insights aligned with client needs. Maintain relationships with existing partners and external sources to identify and engage qualified prospects while building outbound prospecting capabilities. Drive new business development, expand existing relationships, and advance the brand through unique events for personal engagement and professional development. Generate and foster a strong network of referral partners to produce qualified prospects. Leverage deep sector expertise to advise, originate, and negotiate credit and financing solutions. Partner with Corporate Banking Credit Solutions, Senior Credit Officers, and Sales Originations teams to support credit deal management and execution.
- Cross-functional Collaboration and Leadership: Lead team interactions with key cross-functional partners. Collaborate with appropriate business units to achieve success drivers and corporate goals. Mentor and guide team members to develop their client relationship, business development, and financial solutions skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of experience or High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience.
- Preferred area of study: Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Liberal Arts (e.g., English, History), or related field.
- Preferred area of experience: Commercial Banking in Credit Solutions and/or Relationship Management, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Sales Originations.
Qualifications
- 6 years of experience in commercial banking, venture capital, or Relationship Management and/or industry-specific knowledge in technology.
- Strong relationship management and client engagement skills.
- Strong focus and ownership of the overall client experience.
- Self-starter with a take-charge attitude to solve problems and act like a business owner.
- Positive attitude with the ability to quickly adapt to change.
- Ability to work with remote resources and take ownership of tasks to drive results.
- Strong interest and experience in the Innovation economy and Venture Capital/Private Equity space.
- Ability to promote a strong risk culture and sustainable risk/return thinking.
- Strong credit acumen.
- Experience with venture-backed technology and healthcare companies and solutions.
Pay
If hired in New York City, the base pay for this position is generally between $166,000 and $220,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
