Relationship Manager - Vice President (Bilingual Japanese/English Required)

About the role
This role is within the Japanese Corporate Banking Department. You will coordinate corporate banking functions to develop and implement customer-centric relationship plans, organize targeted campaigns and events, and maintain a customer database including calls and results for all new and existing business relationships. The role focuses on managing relationships to meet profit and revenue targets, achieve sales goals, mitigate retention risk, and increase cross-sells while delivering excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Maintain customer database including calls and results on all new and existing business relationships.
- Maintain and apply a thorough understanding of the bank's products, credit policy, client eligibility, and business practices to sell products and services and ensure smooth transaction approval and processing.
- Monitor all credits through periodic reviews, continued analysis, proper credit quality grading, and documentation; analyze delinquent loans or those out of compliance with covenants and formulate recommendations for loan modification or provisions.
- Support related departments in preparation of client materials (presentations, proposals, etc.) and delivering client presentations.
- Provide ad hoc reports for management.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of work experience within corporate/investment banking.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or Accounting preferred, or equivalent education and training.
- Solid communication skills with an ability to coordinate and communicate with various external and internal stakeholders.
- Highly proficient MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
- Japanese language skills (native level) and English language skills (business level) required.
Pay
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $143,000 and $210,000. The specific salary offered will be based on individual qualifications, experience, and an analysis of current compensation in the applicant’s geography and market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award.

Schedule
SMBC’s employees participate in a hybrid workforce model, allowing work from home and the office. Employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of their office location.
