About the Role
This role involves providing comprehensive vision rehabilitation services to visually impaired Veterans, operating independently across hospital, clinic, and home settings.
Responsibilities
- Assess visual, motor, perceptual, physical, cognitive, and social functions to identify rehabilitation needs and goals.
- Partner with Veterans and interdisciplinary teams to develop and modify individualized treatment plans using SMART goals.
- Train Veterans in adaptive techniques, assistive technology, optical devices, and visual-perceptual enhancements to promote independence.
- Serve as a team coordinator, establish peer support networks, and collaborate with external agencies.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and educate family members and healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in blind or vision rehabilitation, special education, or related fields; or equivalent coursework and experience.
- At least one ACVREP certification (e.g., orientation and mobility, vision rehabilitation therapy, assistive technology) for GS-11 level and above.
- Experience demonstrating knowledge of policies, assessments, and therapeutic techniques in vision rehabilitation.
- Ability to develop rehabilitation plans, recommend prosthetic devices, and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
- Leadership experience, including mentoring, supervising internships, or serving as a sole practitioner if applicable.
