Position Summary

The Rehabilitation Nurse will provide specialized nursing care to patients requiring rehabilitation services as part of Project HOPE’s Gaza Response program. In the context of active conflict, mass casualties, trauma-related injuries, and increased disability risk, the Rehabilitation Nurse plays a critical role in supporting functional recovery, preventing complications, and promoting patient independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for patients undergoing rehabilitation due to trauma injuries, post-surgical conditions, neurological disorders, chronic diseases, or mobility impairments.
  • Conduct basic functional and clinical assessments to identify mobility limitations, risk of complications, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Support implementation of individualized rehabilitation care plans in coordination with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical staff.
  • Aid patients with mobility training, safe transfers, positioning, and early mobilization to improve functional recovery.
  • Prevent and manage secondary complications, including pressure ulcers, contractures, respiratory complications, and reduced mobility.
  • Support patients in performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and encourage progressive independence during rehabilitation.
  • Provide wound care, medication administration, and clinical monitoring as required.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on home-based rehabilitation exercises, safe mobility techniques, prevention of complications, and proper use of assistive devices such as walkers, crutches, and wheelchairs.
  • Support fitting, monitoring, and follow-up of basic assistive devices in coordination with rehabilitation staff.
  • Contribute to discharge planning and referral pathways to ensure continuity of rehabilitation services and appropriate follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation including functional progress and rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rehabilitation team discussions and case reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC), safeguarding, protection mainstreaming, and Do No Harm principles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Valid and current nursing license.
  • 1-3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in rehabilitation, post-surgical, or trauma care settings.
  • Experience in humanitarian or emergency health settings is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of rehabilitation nursing principles and prevention of secondary complications.
  • Ability to work effectively in resource-constrained and high-pressure environments.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and safeguarding standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in conflict-affected or hardship contexts such as Gaza.
  • Familiarity with WHO rehabilitation guidelines and humanitarian health standards (Sphere).
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams in emergency response programs.
  • Training in disability inclusion, community-based rehabilitation, or trauma-informed care.
