Rehabilitation Counselor

About the role

Under the direct supervision of the Welch/Mullens Branch Office Supervisor, this individual will function as a professional providing services to individuals with disabilities in the McDowell County Schools as well as McDowell County Field. This position will be housed at the Welch Branch Office. This individual will also serve as the liaison representative with several local agencies. This job opportunity will not be in the classified service.

Responsibilities

• Seek and accept referrals
• Conduct initial vocational diagnostic interviews
• Obtain diagnostic information for the determination of eligibility/significant disability/order of selection
• May also administer achievement and aptitude tests
• Interpret psychological and vocational data to determine rehabilitation needs
• Provide vocational counseling
• Assist the consumer in making a suitable vocational goal choice
• Develop individualized employment plans with consumer/parents
• Provide/arrange and monitor services and progress
• Assess economic need
• Make use of third party resources
• Assist with competitive job placement and follow-up services

Requirements

• Travel will be required to contact consumers, community rehabilitation programs and employers; a valid driver's license or certification that the applicant will provide a reliable means of transportation is required.
• As a condition of employment, an inquiry into job-related information will be completed, which may include, but is not limited to: criminal records, abuse registry records, driving records, employment history, and education and training. Failing to cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovering disqualifying information will result in denial or dismissal from employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when it is discovered.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

Skills

• Good communication and case management skills
• Good computer skills for electronic case management
