Responsibilities
The Rehab Therapy Tech IV performs highly complex (senior-level) rehabilitative therapy work. Work involves assisting in the development, implementation, and execution of a planned and assigned program of rehabilitative therapy.
- Assists in training all new rehabilitation staff
- Assists with assigning and/or providing guidance to other staff
- Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
- Performs other duties as assigned, including actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation
Essential job functions include attending work on a regular basis, assuring quality rehabilitation programming, facilitating and instructing patients in therapeutic activities, and providing instruction to patients in self-care, independent living, and character building.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining relationships with local colleges and community resources, providing accurate observation of patient behavior, developing and maintaining knowledge of patient needs, and operating a state vehicle to transport patients.
Requirements
- Two years’ experience working with people who have mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Two years’ experience in the development of treatment and support plans for people with mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
- Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date
- Certified in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or within six months of hire date
- Certified Rehab Therapy Technician (PTA) or obtain within one year may be required
Skills
- Knowledge of methods and techniques used in providing rehabilitation activities and services, and of mental illness and mental disabilities
- Knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of supervising and overseeing the work of others
- Skills in utilizing computer hardware and software
- Skills in the use of equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic service activities
- Ability to use necessary equipment to carry out rehabilitation activities
- Ability to evaluate a patient’s level of participation in programming
- Ability to document progress and behavior appropriately
- Ability to interact effectively with patients, family members, and staff
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to instruct and train others
Qualifications
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility.

Salary Range: $3,649.83 - $4,594.50, Pay Frequency: Monthly
