Rehab Aide

Job Summary

This is a position within Saint Francis/St Mary’s hospitals Rehabilitation Services department. The Rehabilitative Services Aide (HA 2) reports to the therapists of a particular service or discipline (OT/PT/SLP) and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. At this level, the employee is responsible for the treatment of patients who require the direct supervision and daily guidance of an Occupational, Physical and/or Speech therapist. The Rehabilitative aide actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, inservices and staff development activities.

Responsibilities

• Treats patient under the direct supervision of an Occupational or Physical Therapist
• Affords assistance to therapists with patient care activities
• Affords assistance to the therapist with discharge planning
• Plans, coordinates and distributes patient schedules
• Assists with the transport of patients to and from therapy
• Prepares, maintains and transmits accurate patient care records as required, including services rendered and progress notes
• Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, families, department staff, managers and other UCSF personnel
• Demonstrates effective time management skills in all aspects of position including patient care activities and clerical duties within a standard work day

Qualifications

• Prior clinical-based experience requiring interaction with patients
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
• Ability to recognize signs of distress
• Possession of a high school diploma
• Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification
• Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication
• Possession of excellent interpersonal, time management, problem-solving, and self-initiation skills
• Prior outpatient patient care experience working with sports medicine, orthopedic and neurologic patients in an interdisciplinary team
• Prior experience working in an academic medical center environment
• College degree in a related field
• Holds advanced certifications such as ATC, CSCS, or other relevant professional certification
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology
• Ability to use Excel
• Knowledge of rehab equipment including modalities, Alter-G, BTE, TRX, treadmill, body weight harness
