About the role

Help protect one of Florida’s most vital resources — water — with a career at the Southwest Florida Water Management District (District). The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources, minimize flood risks, and ensure the public’s water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida as directed by state law.

Responsibilities

  • Provides mission-critical paraprofessional support for the business processes of the Regulation Division in permitting, post-permitting and compliance enforcement within statutorily mandated and District-established timeframes.
  • Processes of permit-related information.
  • Processes documents using a variety of computer applications.
  • Data management.
  • Document imaging and ensuring documents are electronic records compliant.

Requirements

High School Diploma (or equivalent)

Be at least part-time current enrollment an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program

Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students

Provide a copy of Official school transcript within 30 days of employment

Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

Organized, strong written and verbal communication skills, takes initiative, and basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.

$14.00 per hour

Schedule

Typically scheduled to work no more than 25 hours per week out of the Brooksville, Tampa or Sarasota office.

The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. All applicants are required to complete, in full, the District employment application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A resume will not be considered as a substitute for the required District application for the purpose of qualification. Applicants who are within 30 days of graduation, if selected are not allowed to start until all minimum qualifications are met.

Student Internship positions are not eligible for insured medical benefits.

Travel Required Yes. Some travel, using District vehicle, within District's coverage area.
