Regular Teacher (9-12 Social Science)

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for instruction, specialized services, and support to students to develop their ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language, discipline students in assigned classes, and perform related duties.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare lessons in accordance with instructional program objectives, Chicago Public Schools’ policies, Illinois Learning Standards, and state and federal law.
• Administer tests and language assessments to evaluate students’ language ability.
• Assess students’ progress, expectations, and goals in the bilingual program.
• Develop and deliver lesson plans using appropriate instructional techniques to help limited English proficient students overcome barriers to equal participation.
• Establish positive learning expectations and evaluate student progress while maintaining accurate records of achievements.
• Apply contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, utilizing available instructional materials.
• Participate in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques.
• Create bulletin boards and interest areas reflective of students’ current work.
• Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism initiatives.
• Establish and maintain responsible rules of conduct in classrooms, playgrounds, corridors, and lunchrooms, consistent with the Chicago Public Schools’ Uniform Discipline Code.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept.
• Ensure fairness in teacher-student relationships and exhibit understanding and respect for students.
• Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel as needed.
• Communicate with parents or guardians regarding students’ academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participate in in-service and professional staff meetings, utilizing provided information and materials.
• May coordinate and attend class field trips and participate in extra-curricular or after-school activities.
• Utilize community resources to support student learning.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required for the appropriate teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Must possess an Illinois State Board of Education-issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.

Physical Requirements

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly.
• Ability to stoop occasionally, reach frequently, and handle objects occasionally.
• Constant ability to talk and hear.
• Frequent use of near visual acuity and occasional use of far visual acuity.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39
