Regular Teacher (6-8 Science Middle Grades Specialization)

About the role

Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Plan instruction, including providing written lesson plans and preparation aligned with the objectives of the instructional program.
• Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils and evaluate their progress while maintaining current and accurate records of achievements.
• Implement contemporary instructional methods and learning theories, utilizing available instructional materials and participating in the development of new teaching techniques.
• Exhibit and apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level.
• Participate in programs to improve student attendance and promote anti-vandalism initiatives.
• Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and school grounds, consistent with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts.
• Encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept while ensuring fairness in teacher-pupil relationships.
• Initiate conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel following school procedures.
• Communicate with parents or guardians regarding pupils' academic progress, attendance, and conduct.
• Participate in in-service meetings, professional staff meetings, and use pertinent information and materials provided.
• Coordinate and attend class field trips as needed.
• Participate in extra-curricular and after-school activities.
• Utilize community resources to support the educational program.

Requirements

• Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL), Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), or a Substitute License.

• Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
• Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching, as well as classroom and behavior management techniques.
• Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs and collaborate with faculty and administration to develop an articulated program of instruction.
• Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, staff, and community representatives.
• Understanding of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
• Skill in applying contemporary teaching principles and practices, with strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and sound professional judgment.

Physical Requirements

Light Work: Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Pay

Salary range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39.
