About the role
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts seeks an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team as a Curatorial Assistant. Reporting to the Curator of European Art, the Curatorial Assistant will assist in the care, conservation, and interpretation of the museum’s European art collection.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the cataloging and documentation of artworks in the European art collection.
- Conduct research on European art history and contribute to scholarly publications.
- Collaborate with curators and conservators on exhibitions and educational programs.
- Participate in the care and maintenance of the museum’s European art collection.
- Support the development and implementation of educational initiatives related to European art.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of one year of relevant work experience in a museum setting.
- Strong knowledge of European art history and cultural context.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with museum database systems.
