About the role
The Advanced Physician Training in Geriatric Medicine position at Alfred Health offers a unique opportunity to gain outstanding clinical experience in a supportive and stimulating environment. Trainees will rotate through a broad range of innovative geriatric services at Alfred Health, including geriatric evaluation and management, dementia and delirium specific wards, community-based substituted inpatient geriatric evaluation and management (Better at Home), psychiatry of old age, inpatient consultation service at Alfred Hospital across the wards and the emergency department, ortho-geriatrics, trauma geriatrics, and services provided by Cabrini Health.
Responsibilities
- Participate in a variety of geriatric services including geriatric evaluation and management, dementia and delirium specific wards, community-based substituted inpatient geriatric evaluation and management (Better at Home), psychiatry of old age, inpatient consultation service at Alfred Hospital across the wards and the emergency department, ortho-geriatrics, trauma geriatrics, and services provided by Cabrini Health.
- Gain experience in general and specialty outpatient clinics such as Continence, Falls, Wound, and Memory Clinics.
- Engage in established Residential (Mobile Assessment and Treatment Services (MATS)) and Community ACAS visits.
- Complete a rural rotation to Bass Coast Hospital.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a current medical degree and be registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Have completed a minimum of one year of postgraduate training in geriatric medicine or a related field.
- Be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Qualifications

- A medical degree from an approved university.
- A minimum of one year of postgraduate training in geriatric medicine or a related field.
