About the role
Raleigh General Hospital is seeking a Registrar to join our team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring accurate patient information and facilitating smooth patient admissions.
Responsibilities
- Gather and verify patient account information, insurance coverage, and ensure accurate entry of demographic, billing, and clinical data, including assigning medical record numbers.
- Distribute and explain forms, obtain necessary signatures, and meet with patients or caregivers to exchange essential information.
- Communicate with physician offices, nursing units, and other personnel to coordinate admissions and determine placement.
- Verify insurance benefits, obtain precertifications/authorizations, and process payments or refer to financial counselors as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing patient questions and concerns while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) and registration software efficiently to manage data and support documentation compliance.
- Collaborate with departments and resolve registration issues to facilitate smooth patient admissions and ensure adherence to hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Three years of directly related experience may be substituted for the required education.
- Previous computer experience required, including familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) or registration systems.
- Strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and staff.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced, and sometimes stressful environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital procedures; billing or collections experience strongly preferred.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain accuracy while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
