Registered Veterinary Technician
Established in 1974, Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital has been serving the needs of our community's pets for over 35 years. Founded by Dr. K.W. Gilpin and currently led by Dr. Darin Gilpin, Dr. Brian Gilpin, and Dr. Tori Shamblin Lefevers, our practice includes seven veterinarians, seven registered veterinary technicians, and many experienced team members dedicated to providing the best quality care for our patients. We offer preventative care, diagnostics, soft-tissue surgeries, laser therapy, dentistry, an in-house pharmacy, and more.
About the role
- Animal restraint and triage of incoming patients
- Collection and analysis of lab samples
- Diagnostic imaging
- Management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability
- Administration of medications
- Effective communication of treatment plans with clients
- Surgical preparation and assistance
- Anesthetic management
Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases. Opportunities for professional growth through virtual and hands-on training and continuing development are available.
Requirements
- Actively registered veterinary technician in the state of West Virginia (1+ year experience preferred but not required)
- High work ethic and positive attitude
- Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work
- Saturday availability (closed Sundays)
- Exceptional customer service skills and precise communication abilities
- Ability to interpret medical records and record client history accurately
- Knowledge of preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital workflow
- Proficiency in low-stress and safe pet restraint
- Proficiency in sample collection (blood, urine, fecal, skin)
- Ability to properly set up and process laboratory samples and tests
- Proficiency in positioning and capturing radiographs (dental radiographs a plus)
- Proficiency in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
- Self-starter with a desire to advance knowledge and skills
- Ability to receive constructive feedback professionally to maintain hospital efficiency

Pay
$22 - $25/hr, negotiable depending on experience level.
Schedule
Full-time and part-time positions available.
Hours: Mon - Fri: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Sat: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Sun: Closed
