Registered Respiratory Therapist - Pediatrics

About the role

Respiratory Therapists at Cleveland Clinic play an integral role in delivering outstanding pediatric patient care. Working alongside physicians and nurses, they provide appropriate respiratory therapy for each child, specializing in airway care and mechanical ventilation for conditions such as allergies, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, and neuromuscular or skeletal‑muscular cardiopulmonary disorders.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, treatment, care, and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
• Direct respiratory caregivers for delivery of care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement, and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood‑gas puncture and analysis.
• Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.

Minimum qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
• Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior neonatal/pediatric critical care experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification.

Physical requirements

Good manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination; normal hearing and vision (or corrected to normal). May require sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. Medium work – exerting 20–50 lb of force occasionally, 10–25 lb frequently, and up to 10 lb constantly to move objects. Physical demand exceeds that of light work.

Personal protective equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Hourly range: $36.75 – $48.55. The actual compensation will consider work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.

Schedule

Part‑time nights, 7:00 pm – 7:30 am, with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.
